See. I don’t understand where this came from. It’s people like Stoker who give this myth out (of course it existed very much PRE him - but he was the “FATHER” as it were of Vampires in society) - and I don’t get WHY they would die if exposed to sunlight. They are in effect dead; but still living. Living Dead. People who have open coffin funerals, have rays of sunshine burst through the church on to them; they don’t burn. There’s no reason as to why they would. The only reason would be when people they’re claim they’re the children of the darkness/ of the devil - thus anything LIGHT and GOOD would burn them. But again; really - are you that DARK or EVIL? No.
So I’m glad so many things like Twilight and Vampire Diaries are ignoring the myth about vampires and sunlight (though the two protagonists in V.D only survive in light because of rings) but even Anne Rice dared (back in the 70s) to write about Lestat flying up into the sky to commit suicide; and not burning (because he had such old vampire blood in him) but rather be tanned. So even from the 70s its been there; as it should be too.
But woo VAMPIRE DIARIES. LOVE IT.
