Leona Lewis’ New Single ‘Run’ Fastest Selling UK Digital Release EVER!
After just two days of sales, Leona’s stunning new single, ‘Run’, has become the UK’s fastest selling digital release ever. In a year that has seen Leona breaking record after record with her debut album ‘Spirit’, and her worldwide smash hit single ‘Bleeding Love’, this new record is yet another amazing accomplishment for the humble 23 year old from Hackney, London.
Leona first performed ‘Run’ (a cover of the original Snow Patrol track) late last year when she was invited to perform for Jo Whiley in Radio 1’s infamous Live Lounge.
The performance soon became one of the most talked about Live Lounge performances with Jo herself saying, “her voice was phenomenal”. The amazing reaction from fans prompted Leona to record a studio version of the track, which came to feature on the recent release of the deluxe edition of Spirit (which became the first album re-release to ever debut at Number 1).
Although not originally intended to be released as a single, following an outstanding performance of ‘Run’ on X Factor, it became clear that plans needed to change, as response to the performance was overwhelming.
‘Run’ became available as a download only, from midnight on Sunday, Nov 30th, and in its first 2 days of sale sold an incredible 69,244 units. The previous record held for the biggest ever digital only Number 1 record was Estelle featuring Kanye West, which sold an impressive 51,857 units in a week. Leona exceeded this figure in just 2 days, and now looks set to have a 3rd Number 1 single.
Run is one of 3 new tracks included in the deluxe edition of Spirit, which was released on Nov 17th and went straight to Number 1. The release also includes a bonus DVD.
2008 has been a truly remarkable year for Leona Lewis. Since the UK release of her debut album Spirit in November of last year she literally hasn’t stopped. She’s been breaking world records, making chart history, travelling the world, topping charts internationally, getting nominated and winning awards, appearing on magazine covers and generally conquering the world.
